WarOnDriving: Campaign For Liberty Successfully Fighting Back Against Red Light Cameras

October 12, 2011

Campaign For Liberty, or C4L has been heavily involved in the fights to remove unconstitutional red light cameras and photo radar devices from this country’s streets and intersections.

It’s hard to argue with their results when you consider that after just a few years of pushing back, so-called “photo enforcement” of traffic violations has been banned in 15 states and been voted on by citizens 18 times, including last week in Albuquerque. All 18 times, cameras have been voted down.

Bullhead City, AZ Votes Unanimously to Nix Red Light Cams; Mukilteo, WA Finally Takes Theirs Down

April 11, 2011

There was plenty of good news last week in the world of cameras coming down or cameras staying away.

Bullhead City, AZ had been debating the horrible idea of introducing dangerous red light cameras into their intersections. The mayor Jack Hakim, spent two years pushing for the marriage between his city and Redflex Traffic Systems. After calls and emails by citizens of Bullhead who refused to fall victim to this scam, Hakim was forced to back off his love for money over safety. When it was all said and done, the mayor conceded after the city council voted 7-0 in favor of nixing the proposed contract. Quoting the mayor,

Florida: Red Light Camera Ban Passes Committee

March 30, 2011

Florida State Senator Rene Garcia is the bill sponsor

Citizens have been hard at work in the state of Florida, moving a bill through legislature that would ban red light cameras across the state.

The Senate Transportation Committee passed the bill 4-2 after their phone lines had to be shut down because of the calls flooding them in support of the measure.

Because of the major outcry of support for banning the red light camera scam in Florida, there is a mass demonstration being planned. For details, please consult the organizers.

Florida SB 672, the red light camera ban, will go to a vote on the senate floor if it passes through Community Affairs.

SCR 1029 – A Citizens Vote to Ban Redflex and ATS from AZ Streets/Intersections

March 7, 2011

This hat is always a perfect fit for AZ legislators

Last summer, Campaign for Liberty activists walked up to Governor Jan Brewer’s office with over 130,000 signatures from Arizona citizens who wanted to ban photo ticketing across the entire state. Every major media outlet in Phoenix was there as well and the Gov gave us all the cold shoulder.

SCR 1029, which will be voted on by the AZ Senate next week, gives Arizonans the vote on a photo ticketing ban that they deserve. It has the same exact wording as SB 1352, which failed by 1 vote to pass the senate last Wednesday.

Make sure to contact your senators today and tell them to do the right thing and vote YES on SCR 1029.

Congressman Ron Paul, Champion of The Constitution Comes to Phoenix, ASU!

November 15, 2010

As Esquire Magazine said this summer, “It’s impossible to dislike Ron Paul.” Well actually, we love Dr. Paul! He stands up for the rights of the people as protected by the United States Constitution.

The elder Dr. Paul, who is up for Chairman of the House Banking Committee and whose son was just elected to the US Senate, is coming back to ASU for a rally. The only word that comes to mind, is, well EPIC!

Here are the details from a Press Release obtained by CameraFRAUD:

On Friday, November 19th, from 12-2 pm, the rally will be held on Hayden Lawn at ASU’s main campus in Tempe. Later that evening the congressman will be at a private reception dinner which is being held at the Phoenician, located at 6000 E Camelback Rd in Phoenix. Tickets to this event are available on The Campaign For Liberty website.

Saturday’s event is the 2010 Campaign for Liberty convention, which will feature Dr. Paul as well as Mark Lerner of the Constitutional Alliance, Tom Jenney Executive Director of Americans for Prosperity, other guest speakers, vendors and co-sponsors, and world class political training.

Special Message from AZ Campaign For Liberty:

Guess what: the politicians see you coming.  They know how to deal with people like you.  They don’t want to give in to people like us.  They know how to confuse you, discourage you, make you waste your time, make you go away, and if all else fails, buy you off.

Effective political mobilization is not taught at major universities.  It is not taught at think tanks, it is not taught at mass demonstrations, and it is rarely even taught by grassroots organizations, who for the most part only expect their members to send letters to legislators and send them money.

It is not taught because the political class doesn’t want you to know about it.

Rackets and Backpacks

July 9, 2009

attentionwhoreSo did you hear the one about American Traffic Solutions “generously” donating 63 backpacks filled with school supplies to a local charity?

Taking a page out of the tobacco industry’s playbook, ATS appears to be desperately trying to change the public perception of their company’s dangerous and unpopular product: automated ticketing.

The “donation,” which we optimistically value to be worth about $2000 (at $31 a bag), is an amazing accomplishment considering the $50 million dollars Goldman Sachs pumped into the firm last fall (after being bailed out by the taxpayers).

In total, no one knows how much more money they steal nationwide while conspiring with local jurisdictions: ATS is a private company and as such is not required to report their “earnings.”

Traffic tickets in general are a regressive tax according to the Campaign for Liberty, hitting the poorest and disadvantaged the hardest:

“A $175 fine could crush someone at the poverty level, while someone much higher on the income scale may have just spent that much on lunch.”

No one’s fooled: ATS runs a racket, and a few backpacks will do little to change anyone’s perception of the firm. ATS’ Cameras are Coming Down as well in 2010. Perhaps they will have some leftover school bags to pack their desks with. It’s gonna get ugly.
