Channel 2 news (KCBS/KCAL) in Los Angeles did some excellent investigative reporting on the impact of red light cameras in LA. The LA Police Department claims that the red light cameras make the streets safer, but the investigative reporters looked at the data themselves and came to the opposite conclusion: red light cameras actually increase accidents. When they contacted the LA PD, the department became very defensive, telling Channel 2 reporters “The City would hope it’s the goal of KCBS/KCAL to discuss the positive aspects of the City’s Automated Photo Red Light Program.”
The LA PD then charged the news outlet over $500 to access crash data at LA intersections, after receiving a Public Information Records Request.
Channel 2 news analyzed crash data before cameras were installed and afterwards. They found that most intersections had accidents increase, by up to 3 times the amount of accidents that occurred before.
So if the cameras aren’t increasing the safety on roads, what are they for? It’s all about the money, just as Dr. John Large concluded, who is a professor at the University of South Florida.

Today i drove past another scamera van on the Carefree Hwy W.B. just before the highway interchange.
These cowards were literally parked 5 feet from the speed change sign 45mph. Can you say speed trap? I will be carrying my camera tomorrow to photograph their misdeeds.
Their stock price is tanking and they know the people will vote them out Nov. 2nd. Things are getting desperate for them.
LAPD has been spending a lot of time on our site lately. I am surprised they have nothing to say here so far.

Sure there are a few dweebs who will whine about “rights” and “privacy”, but there is a whole lot of money here!

Someone on AZ Central keeps asking what the difference is between photo enforcement and security cameras. Easy answer: $$$$$
I can think of a huge list of things cameras can be useful for and make money yet besides. With facial recognition cameras, they can catch people spitting on the sidewalks, smoking too close to an entrance, cussing in public, stepping off the sidewalk and onto the road, drinking and walking, littering, etc etc… then fine everyone according to the violation. And if every car had a camera, they could catch just about anything and everything and make tons of money off of simple little mistakes. Security cameras in stores can be set up in dressing rooms where they can both capture shoplifters and market the vids to the voyeur films distributors.. then the ones looking down on the aisles can catch people loitering (looking at a product for more than 5 minutes) and impose a fine before they leave. So much $$$$ potential… Let’s not forget those x-ray scanners at airports. Tune them so they’ll scan just beneath the clothes, then turn those into cameras and then they’ll be raking in billions every year from the voyeur and paed markets.
I like how each of those advertisement crashes were recorded with red light cameras. It’s like the camera companies are trying to promote how they *don’t* prevent crashes.

This translates to $118 Million of market capitalization which has evaporated since right before the holidays..
Ouch, that’s gotta hurt.. wonder if it’ll rise back up as soon as all the shareholders and investors get word that Redflex is changing its strategy with the help of APCO and the newly formed coalition. My guess is that those might also have a negative impact on stock because the potential investors and shareholders may see the company as currently being highly insecure..
It will really hurt when organizations like ours expose the ‘coalition’ for who are what they are as we enter the election season.

Even Californians are started to wake up to Photo Enforcement Fraud! Way to go LA!
Amazing how the list of cities in CA & FL that have booted out the ATS/Redflex pirates continues to grow! I think that when these fraudulent companies lose Arizona in November, it will be the tipping point and that some of the more out of touch governments in liberal states like Oregon and Illinois will then begin to follow suit also..

The odds that the cameras successfully captured your image are only 50-75% in the first place. If your visor is down and the face is unidentifiable your odds are further reduced (of getting a nasty-gram in the mail).
If you get it in the mail, you obviously know what to do (and not do) since you read CF all the time..
A Florida committe just voted in favor of a bill to eliminate cameras in the state. It passed 7-5, though two committees have favored another bill pro cameras, 28-0. Still, step in the right direction. Also, we have a Rep, Janet Cruz who voted for cameras and her daughter works for a camera company….

This sounds like the bill to ban cameras is where they’re tackling the issue itself – “Do you believe in the system as a safety measure?” The other two bills sound like appropriations line items – “Do you want the money from the existing cameras?”
actually a report out today found the channel 2 study was wrong. data from crashes unrelated to lights was included.
they actually significantly decreased the number of fatal crashes.
I do hope you have a source to back this up.
