DHS Assumes Control of CameraFRAUD

CameraFRAUD visitors were greeted by Homeland Security on Wednesday, April 1

In a breathtaking move, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security temporarily took control of various websites early Wednesday morning to advert an “unspecified, imminent threat to the nation.”

Entire websites, including CameraFRAUD.com, were unavailable for hours until inner-party government officials manually approved their content. A temporary “internet free speech zone” permit was granted late this afternoon to allow our return to the web.

Types of sites involved included those relating to liberty, protests, privacy activism, the so-called  “Constitution,” and Real California Cheese. Mmmm, cheese.

Also happening today: 350 additional cameras are being introduced in the valley under new federal stimulus funding to coincide with the immediate lowering of the threshold used to trigger the automated ticketing machines:

“”It’s no secret that we are facing a difficult time balancing the budget and must find new streams of revenue,” said governor spokesperson Craig Jensen. “The existing enforcement cameras have not met the projections we received and so the governor had to take the necessary action.”

In other April 1 news: Google’s Gmail introduces “Autopilot,” an automated and intelligent response system for those too busy to answer their emails.

  1. A great gag indeed. Well done, KTAR. I was fuming this morning when I first read it.

In other (real) news, Speed cams fail in Maryland! Measure is defeated in the senate. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/politics/bal-speed-cameras-0401,0,80751.story

  2. Glyph says:

Yeah, fell for the ‘350 speed camera’ gag too. I was getting ready to bid on a tank on Ebay before I figured out what was going on.

Good effin’ riddance. Good-bye. Good luck. So long. C-YA! I hope he found a site FOR photo radar cameras. I hope they get a petition going. I hope they get 153,000+ signatures. I hope this Orwellian Socialist Totalitarian s#!t gets put to a vote. & since abolition of photo radar has NEVER lost when put to a vote of the PEOPLE (th’ employers), that, THANK YOU G O D, will be th’ end of that. Then I hope that j-no & nobama are payin’ attention…

  7. geez says:

I’m so laughing at Pinal right now…
So much for Bubu’s promise for more officers. Now the few he has are gonna be stuck running radar and cleaning up after wrecks.

  8. Geez, there will be fewer accidents now that the cameras are down. You never listened to his comments did you? Remember? Accidents DOUBLED where photo radar was installed.

  9. Dan G. says:

Now that’s not fair PhotoRadarScam! Geez has probably been at 0% of the accident sites in Pinal County while Babeau’s officers were at 100% of accident sites. I’m positive Geez can testify about Pinal County better than the sheriff of Pinal County. An nuh-uh by Geez simply carries more weight!

  10. Dan G. says:

You know, this was a great gag from KTAR. However, you have to be very careful with what you joke about. While it’s a ridiculous idea you have to be careful even saying this out loud because there will be somebody, somewhere thinking, “You know, that’s not a bad idea…..”

The city of phoenix is thinking about putting up some of the scameras…those bastards

  13. RhoadWarrior says:

I’m in agreement with “FoDar” for the red light & left hand turners, but I’m NOT in agreement to have a camera every 1 to 2 miles on the freeways for speeders.

Every time a “FoDar” is in sight, drivers slam on their brakes causing accidents or near accidents to avoid going over 65 mph. This is no doubtedly a danger and a safety hazard to other drivers. FoDar is clearly a revenue scam.

I recently got a FoDar ticket in my mail. I couldn’t determine if it was me or my teenager daughter…. so what happens then? I’m not going to pay $181.50 for a ticket that they can’t determine if it’s me or someone using my vehicle.

With a shortage of officers due to budgets, I can understand why the City is claiming the necessity of Photo Radar as a “safety” issue instead of a money-generating issue. Somebody’s got to get paid somewhere.

  14. Law A. Bidingcitizen says:

rhoad warrior…. so what about when a real live cop has set up on the side of the road running radar? dont people brake for that also? and they are not every 1 to 2 miles!!! that would be great though!!

i have a hard time believing you can not tell the difference between yourself and your daughter… either way which life lesson are you going to teach her with this ticket? show her how to take responsinility for her\your actions… orteach her how to role the dice? and then say… well its not our fault they put up the cameras to keep us from breaking the law…

as for the ticket… let me help you… if it was snapped at a time she would have been in school ..then it was you!!! do the right thing man!!

  15. geez says:

Their just gonna take that equipment BuBu lost out on and put in it Phoenix LOL

  16. geez says:

    yes I know Bubu’s stats
Pinal photo radar went into effect mid 2007
In 2006 there were 24 fatalities involving speed
In 2007 there were 12 fatalities involving speed
and that includes pinal growing by 30k people in just a six month period in 2007

  17. Geez, you are wrong. Listen to the interview again:
    http://www.azfamily.com/video/3tvextra-index.html?nvid=324071&shu=1
We’ve actually seen from 2007 to 2008 our actual injury accidents and fatalities actually doubled in the areas in Pinal county WHERE PHOTO RADAR WAS USED.

Why bother… you won’t bother to listen. You’d rather run your mouth than listen to the facts.

And BTW, an accident “involving speed” was not CAUSED by speed and in most cases doesn’t mean the driver was driving above the speed limit. Taking a corner too fast, driving the speed limit in pouring rain, etc.

  18. Law A. Bidingcitizen says:

    http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2008/04/18/20080418gr-vigil18-ON.html

yea scam ..tell the parents of this boy that speed doesnt cause accidents!!!

  19. geez says:

Why bother… you won’t bother to listen.
    teapot to kettle?

  20. LAB, Did you even read the article? It says “Speed was a contributing factor” – That is not the same as CAUSING an accident, and it doesn’t even mean that he was driving above the posted limit.

And do you think a camera would have prevented the accident? No way. But I’m sure it would make you feel better if the driver gets a ticket in the mail in about two weeks.

I’ll listen and I have listened Geez. I’ve checked every link you’ve posted. I know you haven’t done the same with mine. You just haven’t posted any solid arguments. You even have the audacity to comment on the content in the links I’ve posted without viewing the content, and I’ve proven your wrong. Funny how you didn’t bother to respond to that post.

  21. Doc says:

mayor Ph*k gordon’s gonna put up scameras? That’s rich! This moron’s on th’ verge of gettin’ run off by his own cops, his constituants, th’ sherriff’s dept. th’ list goes on & on! I believe Deputy Souza said it very well last night on th’ news, “Mayor Gordon need to Just SHUT-UP!” I’d really like to see a few Phoenix P.D. cops & some citizens interviews on this topic. However, I don’t believe they’ll print that in the “arizona repulsive”.

    Remember…F R E E D O M ! ! !-Doc from Prescott

  22. Doc says:

Th’ azcentral article states that speed was a factor. It also states that 2 of th’ boys in th’ vehicle were EJECTED! If a cop had pulled th’ 2000 Ford Explorer (a vehicle KNOWN for it’s tendancy to tip over, even @ slow speeds)over, maybe all 4 boys lives woulda’ saved. Oh, WAIT….a scamera woulda’ done th’ job! I can see it now. 2 weeks after the funeral…a letter addressed to th’ registered owner of th vehicle…th’ grieving parents open it up…it’s a photo of their DEAD SON! Driving at ?what? rate of speed…’cuz th’ scamers didn’t STOP TH’ BOY FROM SPEEDING…..DID IT??? I would believe that if th’ boy was excessively speeding, they’d have stated that fact in their article. Of course, we’re typing about “azcentral”, a division of th’ arizona repulsive…which is on th’ verge of expiration. Why? They can not get a story straight for th’ life of themselves.

    Remember…F R E E D O M ! ! !-Doc from Prescott

  23. geez says:

“LAB, Did you even read the article? It says “Speed was a contributing factor” – That is not the same as CAUSING an accident”
Splitting hairs, in order to as you say “not listen”

  24. Not splitting hairs, an important difference.

  25. Law A. Bidingcitizen says:

the problem with the cops is there are not enough of them… if they were not pulled over prior to their accident… then this discussion is done!!! cause they were not…. the cameras are to correct drivers behavior… but not everyone will get the message.. and those who dont will pay!! its a pretty simple plan… made difficult by those who oppose everything!!!

  26. Cameras do not correct any behavior. All they do is document it.

Do you have kids? Next time they do something wrong, wait a few days and then scold them for it. See how effective that is at correcting their behavior.

  27. geez says:

and make the kid pay 181$. see if it happens again.

  28. James S says:

PhotoRadarScam said: “Do you have kids? Next time they do something wrong, wait a few days and then scold them for it. See how effective that is at correcting their behavior.”

    LOL! Perfect comparison!

  29. James S says:

Or better yet, PhotoRadarScam, pay a process server to send them an illegitimate “notice of violation” two months later…

You’re dead on the money: automated ticketing does nothing to change behavior except to cause people to jam on the brakes, causing a dangerous difference in speed.

  30. Law A. Bidingcitizen says:

again… james… doesnt that always happen when a human cop is running radar? people slow down? so …what do you think.. we do away with them also?

  31. Law A. Bidingcitizen says:

sorry..let me be more clear… dont people slam on the brakes!!???

  32. Winter says:

Ok this is a bit retarded. Just because an accident mentions ” speed as a contributing factor” doesnt mean it was caused by speed. that could all well mean that if Idiot in Car A didn’t jump into lane next to him without looking while Rule abiding citizen in CAR B swipes him going at the speed limit or maybe even 5 MPH over that… that the speed made the accident worse _whatever_ that speed was. We have to take into account who is making that judgment call and what motives they have for making them also.

I think a lot of drivers in Arizona are poor drivers in general.. terrible drivers in fact. They are quick to slam on their brakes/slow down even without cause and assume right of way when they choose to regardless if they have it or not. They dont drive proactively and in general dont move their cars when they are supposed to. I have on more than one occasion had to sit twice at a light because the dingbat in front of me sat there at green for quite a while or accelerated SO SLOWY that I didnt make it.. (I was only the 3rd car at the light).

Not to mention… the culture of extreme politeness that seems to infect Arizonans here seems to also affect how they drive/handle the right of way at ordinary traffic stops (“No you go ahead..”… “No I insist even if I’m supposed to go…. you go”) which can also cause accidents let alone frustration from people who know how to drive.

So theres much more that goes into accidents than JUST speed. I think “speed is a factor” is mentioned just because you moved your car at all. And yea of course.. your car crashed into the other one because it wasnt parked. I’m sure if it was parked and it perhaps slid downhill all on its own and crashed into another vehicle it would STILL be labeled as a speed accident.

You can still be killed in an accident under the speed limit .. and even way under the speed limit. So dont let speed be the only factor to determine bad drivers in Arizona.

  33. Winter says:

    P. S. If you want to regularly drive way under the speed limit on the highway and slow down or nearly stop when the car in front of you is about a mile ahead of you.. just do us a favor and stay off the highway.

You need to stop driving and take the bus.

  34. Mark S says:

Winter, you said it!!! Speed can be a factor when going 5 MPH.

  35. geez says:

The success of the speed cams cannot be measured in just the reduction of speed related fatalities. There’s also the time the DPS officers have been free’d up to concentrate on DUI’S and drug busts etc.

  36. Geez’s comment is the dumbest comment that keeps getting repeated.

If cameras “free up DPS officers” then that means that DPS officers are no longer patrolling the freeways pulling people over for speeding. This is not the case. DPS officers are still out on the streets looking for the same traffic violations they always have – including speeding. If they see you going 11+ over, they will still pull you over. That hasn’t changed.

If anything, DPS is NOT freed up by cameras. DPS now has officers spending time responding to camera vans that have slid down and embankment, cameras that have toppled over, cameras with post-it notes, and cameras with pick-axe injuries, not to mention the other overhead involved with the program.

  37. Walter says:

    Photo…I agree.

It makes no sense to say that the cameras “Free Up” officers to do “other” duties such as drug busts, DUI busts…etc. The way MOST drug busts, DUI and other crimes are caught is by an officer pulling someone over for something like..oh I don’t know..Maybe SPEEDING??? and then the officer notices something amiss. And next thing you know another dangerous criminal is taken off the street. So it seems to me that the cameras used in the manner that all the trolls say they are supposed to be used would severely limit the ability an officer has to make such ‘Busts”.

It’s almost funny how most of the arguments the trolls use in defence of the cameras. Are the same reasons that the cameras can’t work the way they are intended.

“They reduce accidents”. Actually they increase accidents. It’s been proven over and over.

“They free up officers” Pulling over a speeder has always been the most effective way to catch other major violations. And a camera will NEVER get a drunk driver off the road.

“The cameras are there for safety not money” The bill was passed in a budget package. The governor was not working on a public safety package when she came up with this scam.

I think the trolls are just worried about their jobs. It’s a tough time to be unemployed right now. And they are not sure if anyone will hire them when they put “redflex” or “ATS” on thier resume. I know I wouldn’t

  38. Henry says:

Not so fast – Obama just nominated Charles Hurley to head up the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. To those unfamiliar, Hurley was a former officer of the Insurance Institute for Highway Robbery (Safety) and is also on the advisory board to the National Campaign to Stop Red Light Running. He wants cameras everywhere. Contact your senators and demand that they vote against his nomination.
