Red Light Camera Debate Heats Up in Phoenix

Government money grubbing knows no bounds in 2011 Phoenix.

Phoenix City Council continues to suppress all info on what discussions have been had regarding the fool’s pursuit of adding red light cameras in multiple new locations.  The false pretense of “making intersections safer” has been thrown around by city bureaucrats but members of council privately admit that this is yet another money grab.

You said “Tomorrow, the Phoenix City Council will have its first discussion” uhhhhh If its tomorrow post the location and time…WTF are you doing?

    • I’m still trying get the time/loc confirmed. We’re not getting a lot of help on this one so far and the Phoenix website is pretty terrible.

All we have heard is June 30th and it’s some kind of “work study.”

It was a pretty good attempt by John but he failed to ask the questions that would have made the interview a homerun… 1. How do you fix an intersection that has sub-optimal timing with a camera? 2. The guy said they studied crash numbers, but did they study WHY people were running the red lights? You have to know why people are running the lights before you know what the best solution is. If people are running red lights due to poor signal visibility or intersection design, how will a camera help?

Also, he should have dove deeper with the answer about the tradeoff of safety vs. efficiency. The city revealed that they are unwilling to trade 0.5 to 1 seconds of traffic volume for increased safety. Instead they want to trap drivers and take their money for harmless fractional-second violations. THe traffic engineer was wrong, they are NOT LIMITED in signal timing. They can set the timing however they want.

24 years of polluting the environmnet. To think, people have these vans idling right behind their homes in PV. The smell around this van was awful!

You should have left them a post-it note. BTW, I believe it is illegal to leave a car running while attended.
