“Napolitano lays out a sweeping surveillance agenda that includes citizen spies who have a mission of “shared responsibility” to thwart “Core” al-Qaeda, foreign groups “inspired by” al-Qaeda, as well as domestic “extremist” groups, which apparently include an increasing number of plots by U.S. citizens. She added that “there is no single portrait” of today’s potential terrorist, citing recruiting tactics “including Hip Hop videos, if you can imagine that.” And, naturally, cyberspace.”

DHS official says ISPs would likely be covered by Obama cybersecurity plan
By Gautham Nagesh – 06/21/11 03:44 PM ET
A top Department of Homeland Security cybersecurity official told lawmakers Internet Service Providers (ISPs) would likely be among the private-sector firms that would be subject to federal oversight under the White House’s proposed cybersecurity legislation.
At a hearing in front of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism, DHS acting Deputy Under Secretary Greg Schaffer acknowledged that under the White House’s plan, ISPs would likely be among the private firms deemed critical infrastructure and therefore subject to federal security standards.

I don’t know if someone has already posted this, but apparently Los Angeles didn’t kill the camera program, but on the bright side, they didn’t renew it, either.
There were 7 of 15 in favor of killing the cameras.
There were 5 of 15 dying to keep them.
There were 3 absent from the vote. Where the hell were these three??
As things stand, the program will end by default at 12:00 AM, on August 1st, 2011. That’s not very comforting, but it’s better than nothing.
Arguing over cameras is like arguing over Barack Obama. Way too many people stopped listening to reason about the topic a long time ago and listen to their hearts – and anyone else who agrees with their point of view… You just have to hope that the leadership goes your way by sheer numbers…
