Remember, Remember… The 5th of November

“And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn’t there?

Cruelty and injustice…intolerance and oppression.

And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance, coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission.

How did this happen? Who’s to blame? Well certainly there are those who are more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable.

But again, truth be told…if you’re looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror…

…More than four hundred years ago, a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice and freedom are more than words – they are perspectives.

So if you’ve seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you, then I would suggest that you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked.

    so what’s going to happen

will hundreds of vendetta lookng drivers activate the cameras on purpose? will someone tear down all the cameras?

I doubt anything significant will happen. But November 5th is a date when opressive governments look over their shoulders a little more than usual, in fear of individuals who might strike back.

Personally, I hope it’ll be a peaceful non-event where the government is merely inconvenienced.

Superb inclusion, guys. Oh, so apposite! I love that movie, not least because it dramatises exactly what is happening today in Western society, and the scameras are the best example of it. The “we’ll oppress you for your own safety” theme is a many headed monster, and greed cameras are but one. Others include the medico-Nazis trying to reintroduce prohibition by stealth (i.e. tax), dietary controls and the ever increasing tightness of surveillance. That’s why I find this site so refreshing and heartening. While places like Australia and to some extent the UK have “rolled over” before the might of the Nanny State, I still perceive a shining fragment of the “Minuteman spirit” that gained America her freedom. I must get myself a Guy Fawkes mask!!

Oh, and great post, Dragonflydf! The companies of which you speak are most certainly “dirty yellow dingoes” in the Australian vernacular sense of the word. I am ashamed to hail from the same country as them.

    Happy November 5th!

    Time for some Australian bonfires!

“Guy Fawkes Night (or Bonfire Night) is an annual celebration on the evening of 5 November. … Bonfire Night was celebrated in Australia until the mid- to late 1970s, when sale and public use of fireworks was made illegal and the celebration was effectively abolished.”
