Roecker wants “bucketfuls” of money from Photo Radar

September 30, 2008

During an open meeting earlier today, Prescott City Councilman Bob Roecker admitted to wanting to make “bucketfuls of money” from the deployment and utilization of photo enforcement equipment, according to Prescott eNews:

Roecker wants to make bucketfuls of money on this, and take the funds to “turn it into an educational process so we don’t have to keep doing this all the time. I want us to make money on this deal and turn it into an educational opportunity for our citizens.”

Awww… they just want to “educate” you— how special.

All joking aside, since when is it proper for government to openly admit wanting to make money off of a violation of the law?

Once a revenue stream is established for a certain crime, can there really be an honest effort to prevent such crimes? Or does the City become a co-conspirator in trying to make you violate the law?

Prescott To Decide On Photo Scam Cams

September 30, 2008

Those native to Arizona won’t be surprised to see the further decline of charming Prescott, AZ. The once-peaceful and picturesque northern retreat has been overrun for years by Californians, all but destroying the town’s original culture and character.

Now, City officials are weighing whether or not to seek proposals from scam-cam vendors to install photo enforcement systems city-wide.

Action Alert: Call The Prescott City Council at 928-777-1100 and tell them to immediately reject the idea of using photo enforcement. Photo Enforcement cannot stop drunk drivers, stolen cars, or reckless driving.

ATS gets cash infusion from… Goldman Sachs?!

September 25, 2008

We couldn’t make this stuff up if we tried to. Scam-cam vendor American Traffic Solutions has received an unspecified investment from Goldman Sachs.  I, for one, welcome our new financial/police state overlords.

Phoenix Business Journal reports:

Although neither company would disclose the amount of the investment, ATS President James Tuton said it was a “significant” amount that will net the former investment house, now a bank holding company, two seats on the private Scottsdale company’s seven-member board.

What a racket! For those who still don’t get that all they want to do is take your money, hear it from the horse’s mouth:

As more cities use ATS’ photo radar and red-light cameras, an increasing number are deciding to follow suit — particularly in tight economic times, when they are seen as revenue generators, (ATS President) James Tuton said.

There’s something inherently sick about depending on a violation of the law as a method of raking in money — and admitting it publicly.

What you’re witnessing is moral and political bankruptcy on an epic scale. The cameras are coming down.

Photo Enforcement Related Racism? Video Released

September 22, 2008

CameraFRAUD.com has released a video (see on Youtube) provided by an east-valley family which alleges possible racism on the part of a process server who was apparently trying to serve a Redflex-generated photo enforcement citation. (Technical Note: Youtube butchered the quality of the video. We’ll try to get the higher resolution version uploaded ASAP.)

The family, some of whom are veterans of the United States Armed Forces, contacted CameraFRAUD.com after the incident was captured. The video shows a process server exiting his vehicle to throw an unidentified piece of crumpled paper on the ground. The man returns to a burgundy-colored vehicle which lurches forward (and possibly towards a child in the street.)  The man is heard yelling a racial slur as he sped off down a residential drive.

CameraFRAUD.com issued the the following statement on Friday:

“Just in the past six months, private photo enforcement companies have been found to violate state laws repeatedly. As if the recent arrest of a drunk photo radar van driver wasn’t enough of an insult to the people of Arizona, now it looks like Redflex and their associated companies may be using racist intimidation methods,” said a CameraFRAUD.com volunteer in a prepared statement.

CameraFRAUD.com has scheduled a press conference for Tuesday to address the revelation of the video. Members of the community are welcome to attend and express their support for the family involved in this incident. (Please RSVP on our Meetup site).

Press Release: CameraFRAUD.com Press Conference and Rally

September 19, 2008

CameraFRAUD.com has announced a press conference and public rally in response to recent revelations regarding a video showing a photo radar process server using a derogatory racial slur while interacting with a member of the community.

WHEN: Tuesday, September 23rd at 1:00 PM
WHERE: Arizona State Capitol, 1700 W Washington St, Phoenix, AZ

The video allegedly shows a process server yelling “you’re a f—ing wetb—, go back to Mexico” after attempting to serve an individual with a Redflex-generated photo enforcement citation. The video shows that the family’s children were present during the slur. The video will be released prior to Tuesday.

“This Governor and the Department of Public Safety want to reward these same companies with multi-million dollar contracts to place hundreds more of these cameras around the state with the primary mission of raising revenue.”
